CHAPTER SEVEN
Right away, of course. We decide to begin right away.
Well, right away after a good night's sleep, a restful slumber that we all needed desperately. A slumber where we aren't under constant fear of orbital bombardment or some other Reblox attack.
Can you imagine? We're in the actual belly of the largest Reblox Battle Cruiser in the fleet and that's where we finally feel safe. Life is pretty weird sometimes.
After an amazingly restorative night's sleep and a light breakfast, I make my way to the gymnasium directly across from the crew quarters for my morning work out. I really want to give these Reblox work out facilities a little field test.
I make my way towards a thick foam padded cylinder connected to the floor by a metal coiled spring. It slowly jostles back and forth as I walk towards it, clenching my fingers and cracking the knuckles of all twenty fingers. I leap into action, swinging my four fists in rapid fire succession, slamming into the bag one right after another. The bag twists and lunges with each strike as the spring coils back then launches it towards me. I slip to the side and begin another series of swift blows, sending the cylinder spinning. It halts, it spin suddenly, coils, then charges towards me, propelled by some internal mechanism. I shift and block aside the attack, then launch a counter-attack with my right foot, nearly folding the bag over my thrusting kick.
My breath comes in ragged gasps as I bend over placing my hands on my knees, trying to catch some evasive air. Sweat brushes the surface of my skin and falls to the mat in soft patters, a reminder of why these mats are always so moist. Soft clapping echoes in the mostly empty gymnasium behind me, and I turn, squinting towards the noise.
A Reblon appears in the doorway, walking towards me while smacking his rough palms together. His teeth are bared, and his fur is slicked back with sweat. Before he's even fully inside the large room, shadows appear behind him as three more Reblons flank him, matching him stride for stride. Their feet squeak on the mat covered floor, but the rest of the room is a wall of silence.
"Sorry, did I take your spot?" I ask, holding out my hand to stop the bag from moving.
"Oh no, not at all," the lead Reblon growls. His mouth twists into a wider sneer, exposing even more fangs. His face is a thick, crumpled mass of gray leather punched into a rambling hood of dark, long fur. His entire body is cloaked in a deep brown mass of clumped together hair that shifts as he walks towards me. One of his friends is starkly different with his fur coat an off white, almost ivory color, thatched with streaks of brown. The third Reblon is gray and walks with a slight limp, making me wonder if the graying fur is a sign of age or if that's how he was born.
